Windows

Get the network running at full speed

What it does

Pictures from your cameras go out over this connection. A gigabit network card that has dropped to 100 or even 10 Mbps makes them queue up behind each other, and results arrive late. The app reads the speed but does not change it, because changing it briefly disconnects the computer.

In the app: Network running at full speed

See the current speed

  1. 1Open Start › Settings › Network & internet › Ethernet.
  2. 2Look at "Link speed (Receive/Transmit)". It should say 1000/1000 (Mbps) or 1 Gbps. 100 or 10 means the link is slow.

Do these steps at the computer, not over a remote connection — the network drops for a few seconds while the settings change.

Turn off the adapter's power saving

The usual cause is a power-saving feature of the network card that lowers the speed.

  1. 1Right-click Start and open Device Manager › Network adapters.
  2. 2Open the wired (Ethernet) adapter and go to the Advanced tab.
  3. 3Set each of these to Disabled, if present: Energy-Efficient Ethernet, Green Ethernet, Gigabit Lite, Power Saving Mode, Auto Disable Gigabit.
  4. 4If there is "WOL & Shutdown Link Speed", set it to "Not Speed Down".
  5. 5Leave "Speed & Duplex" on Auto Negotiation.
  6. 6Press OK. The network reconnects after a few seconds.

Still slow? Check the cable and the switch

If the speed is still 100 or 10 Mbps, the cause is physical.

  1. 1Swap the network cable for a known-good Cat5e or Cat6 cable.
  2. 2Plug into a different port on the network switch.
  3. 3Ask whoever manages the switch whether that port is limited to 100 Mbps.

Check it worked

  • The row reads On — it does when the connected adapter reports a speed in Gbps.
  • If the computer also has Wi-Fi switched on, the app may be reading the Wi-Fi adapter. Use the wired connection for cameras and turn Wi-Fi off.

Still need help?

In ANPR Edge, open Support and choose Chat with support, or email [email protected]. Attach the file from Activity & logs › Download Logs — it includes these settings and the Windows records we need.
