Keep a record when Windows crashes

What it does

If Windows ever crashes with a blue screen, this keeps the small file that explains why. Without it there is nothing for anyone to look at afterwards. It costs nothing while the computer is running normally, and it also makes Windows restart by itself after a crash.

In the app: Keeps a record if Windows crashes

The quickest way

In ANPR Edge, go to Support, press "How this computer is set up" and tick this row.

Change it by hand

  1. 1Press Windows+R, type sysdm.cpl and press Enter.
  2. 2On the Advanced tab, under "Startup and Recovery", press Settings.
  3. 3Under "Write debugging information", choose "Small memory dump".
  4. 4Make sure "Automatically restart" is ticked. Press OK.

Where the records go

Crash files are saved in C:\Windows\Minidump. If support asks for them, copy that folder and send it along with the file from "Download Logs" — the log bundle does not include crash files on its own.

Turning it off

Untick the row in the app, or choose "(none)" under "Write debugging information".

Still need help?

In ANPR Edge, open Support and choose Chat with support, or email [email protected]. Attach the file from Activity & logs › Download Logs — it includes these settings and the Windows records we need.
