The watchdog that restarts the software
What it does
A small companion program, ANPRWatchdog, runs alongside ANPR Edge. If the software stops for any reason it starts it again, usually within seconds, so a fault at night does not mean a lost night of counting.
In the app: Something is keeping an eye on the software
How it behaves
The watchdog starts with ANPR Edge — at sign-in through a scheduled task named "ANPR Software Agent", or whenever the app is opened. If the app stops, it waits 5 seconds and starts it again. If the app keeps stopping, the wait grows, up to 5 minutes between attempts, and it never gives up. Once the app has run for 10 minutes the wait resets.
Closing the app on purpose stops it too
When somebody closes ANPR Edge themselves — the window's close button, Quit from the tray icon, or Alt+F4 — the watchdog understands that was intended and stops as well. That is why the row can read Off after somebody has closed and partly reopened things.
Bring the watchdog back
- 1Close ANPR Edge completely: right-click its icon by the clock and choose Quit. Wait until the icon disappears.
- 2Open Start and choose "ANPR Software Agent" (in the ANPR Software folder).
- 3Open Support › "How this computer is set up". The row should now read On.
Opening the app from the Start menu while it is already running does nothing — the second copy closes straight away — so the watchdog does not come back that way. Close it fully first, or simply restart the computer.
If it is missing after every restart
The watchdog is started at sign-in only if "Start ANPR Software Agent automatically when Windows starts" was ticked during installation. Run the installer again with that box ticked. Check also that Windows signs in by itself — see the automatic sign-in guide.
Check it worked
- In Task Manager, under Details, both ANPRAgent.exe and ANPRWatchdog.exe are running.
